Pacers Tie School Record with Ninth Straight Win

Aston, PA – Marywood University tied a program record for longest winning streak with its ninth consecutive win in a 63-60 nail-biting victory over Neumann University in Colonial States Athletic Conference women's basketball action. The Pacers tied the mark previously set during the 2010-11 campaign.

Alexa Gerchman led the Pacers with 14 points and eight rebounds. Tara Steakin added 11 points and was a perfect 6 for 6 from the line.

Gabrielle Giordano added nine points, and Natasha Hessling provided eight points.

The Pacers were 93.3 percent with a 14-for-15 performance from the line. Marywood shot 42.6 percent from the field, and Neumann had a 37.5 percent field goal percentage.

Neumann was led by AAliya Hayes with 12 points and eight rebounds. JoHanna Metzger was a rebound shy of a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds. Lauren Legler had 10 points and three steals.

Marywood opened the first quarter with an early lead. Steakin hit a 3-pointer just before the buzzer to end the first stanza to take a 20-12 lead. The Pacers opened the second quarter with a six-point lead off a Giordano 3-pointer to take a 12-point lead. Neumann closed the second half by holding the Pacers scoreless for the final 6:48 of the game. The Knights finished on a 16-point run and went into the halftime on a Hayes layup.

Neumann hit a 3-pointer to start the second half to take its biggest lead of the game at 36-29. The Pacers responded with an 11-2 run to take a 40-38 lead. Lisa Steakin tied it with a 3-pointer, and her sister Tara took the lead on a pair of free throws.

A 9-2 run over the course of the end of the third and beginning of the fourth quarter gave the Pacers a 55-50 advantage with 5:15 left in the game. A bounce pass from Catie Nealon to Gerchman gave the Pacers its first two-possession lead of the second half.

After the Knights brought it to one with 2:31 left, Tara Steakin extended the lead back to three on a feed to set up a Hessling layup inside. On the next Knights' possession, Nealon blocked Lauren Legler shot and Courtney Murray grabbed the defensive rebound. Marywood closed out the game with six consecutive free throws from Tara Steakin and Nealon.

First-place Marywood (13-6, 10-0 CSAC) travels to Cabrini College Wednesday.
