Pacers Fall in Overtime to Highlanders

Langhorne, PA – Marywood University dropped its second straight overtime game in a 71-70 loss to Cairn University Wednesday in Colonial States Athletic Conference men's basketball action. The Highlanders' Julian Collazo hit a layup with 16 seconds from Josh Vlna for the game-winning score.

Cairn outscored Marywood 5-4 in the overtime period.

Cory Callejas scored a team-high 19 points with seven field goals. Callejas reached double figures for the fourth straight game and for the sixth time in seven games. Shane Letthand had 17 points and seven rebounds.

James Curley posted 11 points. Dexter Shy was a point and a rebound shy of a double-double with nine and nine, respectively.

Gerroid Doughty contributed a double-double for the Highlanders with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Collazo was a rebound shy of a double-double himself with 19 points and nine rebounds. Kyle Bonner generated 11 points.

Marywood shot 39 percent from the field to the Highlanders' 37.5 percent. Cairn hit 10 out of 25 3-pointers for a 40 percent. Marywood shot 90 percent (18 of 20) from the charity stripe.

The Pacers finished the first half on an 8-2 run. Connor Shroyer capped off the stanza with a 3-pointer from Connor Callejas.

Cairn went on a seven-point run to lead 40-34 with 13:12 left in the game. The Highlanders led by as much as 10 (54-44) with 8:37 remaining. The Pacers took off on a 13-2 streak over a 2:30 span. Letthand hit a 3-ponter with 4:54 to give the Pacers a one point.

Marywood held onto a three-point lead but the Highlanders scored four straight and took the lead on a Collazo layup with 1:45 left. Connor Callejas hit the first free throw but missed the second. Curley grabbed an offensive rebound, but the Pacers were unable to put the ball back in.

In overtime, Connor Callejas made a pair of layups to give Marywood a four-point lead with 70 seconds left. Zachary Jackson banked a 3-pointer to cut it to a one-point Highlander deficit. Collazo hit the game-winning shot with 16 seconds on the board.

Marywood hosts Rosemont College Saturday at approximately 3:00 pm. It is the team's Pink Game to raise funds for the Nadine Cenci Marchegiani Foundation.
