Pacers Tie Program Record with 13th Conference Win

Scranton, PA – The Marywood University women's basketball team picked up a 65-50 victory over Keystone College Saturday in Colonial States Athletic Conference action. The Pacers tied a program record with their 13th conference win of the season.

Marywood (16-7, 13-1 CSAC) jumped out to an insurmountable lead early on, outscoring the Giants 27-6 throughout the first quarter. The Pacers outscored Keystone by a 13-1 margin to close the stanza.

Despite the win, no Marywood player posted a double-digit scoring performance. Daniella Castellanos posted a career-high nine points to lead the team. Tara Steakin matched her with nine points on three 3-pointers. Alyssa Olson had eight points.

Natasha Hessling had a team-high six rebounds. Catie Nealon and Lisa Steakin each had three steals.

Keystone's Maddy Morro had a game-high 14 points. Destinee Hall and Samantha Donahue each had nine.

With two stuffs, Courtney Murray moved within eight blocks of the school career record.

Marywood shot 37.5 percent from the field, including a 56.3 percent first quarter. Keystone was limited to a 32 field goal percentage. The Pacers outrebounded the Giants 41-39. Marywood's passing game shined with a 19-9 advantage over the visitors from La Plume. The Pacers' bench outscored Keystone by a 47-9 margin.

The Pacers galloped over the Giants early on. Marywood broke an early tie with a pair of 3-pointers from Lisa Steakin and Gabrielle Giordano. Courtney Murray engineered a six-point run. Her block kickstarted a pair of free throws, followed with a layup and an assist to Nealon for a 14-4 lead at 3:45 left in the first.

Marywood enabled five straight missed shots by the Giants during the forest-green-and-gold's 13-1 run to end the quarter. Nealon closed the frame with a steal and a 3-point play via Rory Jordan to end the quarter with a 21-point lead.

The Pacers look to stay active in their quest for home court advantage Wednesday at 7:00 pm when it hosts Summit University of Pennsylvania.
