Glenside, PA – Arcadia University broke out of a three-goal game at halftime with four straight to down Marywood University 16-10 in both teams' women's lacrosse openers. The Pacers brought the game to within four but were unable to capitalize in the final 15 minutes.

Freshman Ashley Valway scored four goals in her collegiate debut for the Pacers. Katrina Kelly was the team's only other multi-goal scorer with a pair of netters.

Despite the losing effort, goalkeeper Lauren Smith made a career-high 18 saves in goal. Natalie Burke won five ground balls, in addition to a goal scored.

Arcadia's Dawn Faranetta scored seven goals for the Knights. Adeline Bellesheim matched her with seven assists. Marie Brockman notched a hat trick. Jordyn Dunacusky made nine saves for a season-opening win.

Marywood went ahead first with Valway's first career score at the 26:36 mark. After Benites evened it with a man-up goal two minutes later, the Pacers put the next two points on the scoreboard. Kelly gave the Pacers the lead again with an unassisted tally at 21:38. Eighty-eight seconds later, Caitlin Watson provided Marywood with a 3-1 lead.

The Pacers held onto a lead for the next six minutes. For the next 23 minutes, Arcadia scored 10 of the next 11 goals. Jessica Santoli and Brockman erased the Pacers lead to a 3-3 tie at the 14:06 mark of the first half. Eleven seconds after Brockman's tying tally, Santoli provided the go-ahead goal from Eric Misner. Kelly's goal with nine seconds left in the first half was the Pacers' only saving grace.

Arcadia's lead grew to 11-4 with four straight in the second half's first minutes. Burke put a stop to the Knights' run with her first of the season at 24:45. Kylie Winton, Michelle Thompson and Valway scripted back-to-back-to-back netters that trimmed the deficit to 12-8 with 15:38 left.

Benites and Dawn Faranetta responded with three combined goals of their own over the next five minutes to clinch the Knights' win.

Arcadia outshot the Pacers by a 43-26 margin. Led by Winton's three, Marywood held onto a slight 14-13 advantage. Arcadia narrowly led the Pacers (15-13) in ground balls. Turnovers cursed the Pacers by a 22-12 split.
