Scranton, PA - Marywood University senior Shane Letthand became the eighth member of the 1,000 Point Club in a 63-62 overtime loss Saturday to Immaculata University in Colonial States Athletic Conference men's basketball action. Coming into the game needing 12 points, Letthand scored on a jogging layup with his left hand while falling down just two minutes into the second half to reach the plateau.

Letthand nearly completed a double-double in difficult fashion, coming one steal shy of the mark. He matched a Isiah Walker's school record of nine steals in a game that dates back to a 2004 game versus Neumann. Letthand provided 15 points on 6 of 12 shooting and had seven assists and six rebounds.

Immaculata came back from four points down with 90 seconds to go to force overtime. The Mighty Macs scored the final seven points in the last half of the overtime period. Cory Callejas put the Pacers ahead by six (62-56) on a 3-point shot from a brilliant pass by Letthand. Immaculata's Matt Simon cut the deficit to two with a layup with 24 seconds remaining.

Marywood wasn't able to get the ball onto its end of the court, and Simon made a steal to give the Mighty Macs a chance at redemption. A missed 3-pointer was collected offensively by Michael Griffin III. Simon swished the game-winning 3-pointer in the corner with nine seconds remaining. Marywood's final shot went short to even Immaculata's conference record at 7-7.

A off-balance 3-pointer made at the regulation buzzer by Letthand with two defenders in his face was called off by referees after a short discussion. Because it was shot after the horn sounded, Marywood and Immaculata were forced to play extra basketball for five minutes. Immaculata outscored Marywood 8-7 in the final period.

Tip Swartz led all scorers with 16 points. Cory Callejas continued his hot hand with an 11-point effort. Letthand had four more steals than the entire Mighty Macs lineup.

Immaculata had a double-double from Roy Ferrell Jr. with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Half of Simon's team-best 16 points came in the last minute of a period. Rodney Duncon paced the Mighty Macs with 15 points. As a team, the Mighty Macs outrebounded Marywood by a 49-26 margin.

Marywood took a 10-9 lead with 10:38 left in the first quarter and did not trail again until the opening drive of overtime. The Pacers scored nine of the first 11 points of the second half, holding its largest lead of 11 (37-26) with 17:25 left in the half. As the Mighty Macs mounted their comeback late in the second half, Callejas made a layup with 2:39 left to put the forest green and gold on top by six points. After Roy Ferrell Jr. scored on a shot amid traffic, Rodney Duncan hit his second 3-pointer in a 90-second span to bring it to a one point game. Dexter Shy made the only one of Marywood's four free throw attempts down the second-half stretch. But that was not enough to prevent Mike Piekarski from driving the court and making an off-balance, low-percent jump shot that just teetered into the basket with 2.9 seconds left to even the score.

Marywood looks to get a win at Cairn University Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
