Pacers Held Off By Cardinals in Fourth Quarter

Washington, DC – Marywood University lost by one goal for the third straight game in an 11-10 defeat at the hands of The Catholic University of America Saturday in non-conference men's lacrosse. The Pacers nearly erased a five-goal halftime deficit before being unable to even the scoreboard in the final 3:44 of the game.
 
Scott Slater finished with a season-high four goals to put him 11 shy of the 100 Goal Club. Cody Bachman totaled a hat trick with three goals – all in the first quarter.
 
Jake Drexl contributed three assists. Austin Maylor garnered a pair of helpers. Riley Litman went 14 of 25 from the faceoff-x, and Bobby Sedlock picked up four ground balls.
 
The Marywood goalkeeping corps made 13 saves and allowed 11 goals against.
 
Catholic's Bennett Bradley totaled three goals. Three players had a pair of assists, and Harrison Holak made 12 saves.
 
Bachman scored three unanswered goals to start the game within the first eight minutes. The Cardinals (6-2) answered with eight straight goals in less than 20 minutes to close out the half and take an 8-3 lead into the break.
 
Marywood ended 26 scoreless minutes with a Slater netter via Maylor at the 10:56 mark of the third quarter. Stephen Deiner and Slater scored two more in the next four minutes to bring the deficit to tow goals. After Bradley added one for the Cardinals in the final two minutes of the third quarter, Marywood responded in the fourth stanza with a pair from Rob Maini and Robbie Pickeral in the first three minutes to close the gap to one. The Pacers cut Catholic's lead to one three separate times in the final 12:16 but were unable to capitalize. Slater took a Drexl pass into the net to trim the mark to 11-10 with 3:44 remaining.
 
Holak made two saves on Bachman shots down the stretch to seal the victory. Bachman released a shot that was stopped with nine seconds left, and Victor Licata's ground ball was enough to lock down the win.
 
Marywood travels crosstown to play The University of Scranton Wednesday at 5:00 pm.
