Scranton, PA – Marywood University lost by one goal for the fourth consecutive game in a 8-7 overtime defeat at The University of Scranton Wednesday in crosstown men's lacrosse action. Scranton's Alec Mikrut scored the game-winning goal with 64 seconds left in the first overtime period.

Scott Slater scored a pair of goals to move within nine points of the 100 Goal Club. Jake Drexl led the way with a goal and three assists for four points. Matt Casto and Cody Bachman each garnered a goal and an assist.

Rob Maini scooped up four ground balls.

Scranton's Brad Elkin finished with two goals and an assist. Mikrut's goal complemented a pair of assists. Nicholas Swift had a goal and an assist.

Marywood had the only goal of the first quarter when Drexl ended nearly 14 minutes of scoreless action.

The Royals (6-1) responded by out-producing the Pacers 4-1 in the second quarter. Elkin evened the scoreboard 23 seconds into the stanza. Cody Bachman moved the Pacers briefly ahead at 10:51 until Swift squared the score again 41 seconds. It started a three-goal run to go into halftime with a 4-2 lead.

Marywood (0-6) crawled its way back in the third quarter with a pair of goals from Slater. Skyler Swope tallied his first goal of the season to make it a 5-5 game with 38 seconds remaining. Unfortunately, Patrick O'Rourke responded with three seconds left to give Scranton the lead heading into the fourth.

In the fourth, Andrew Marone supplied the Royals with a two-goal cushion. Drexl assisted a Maini tally with 7:08 left, and Casto scripted a 7-7 impasse with 2:16 to go in regulation.

Scranton took possession in overtime, and Marywood's goalkeeping corps dispatched an O'Rourke shot on goal. A failed clear on the Pacers' lone possession gave the Royals the ball back, setting up an Elkin pass to Mikrut.

Scranton won 14 of the 17 faceoffs, thanks to Adam Drury's four ground balls. The Royals had a 32-26 lead in ground balls, and Marywood edged the Royals by a 33-32 margin. Scranton has won each of the past seven crosstown meetings by four or fewer goals.

Marywood looks to get its first victory of the season against first-year program Wilkes University Saturday in Edwardsville, Pa.
