Pacers Topple Wilkes for First Win of 2016 Season

Edwardsville, PA - Marywood University picked up its first victory of the 2016 season with a 16-5 victory over Wilkes University Saturday in non-conference men's lacrosse. The Pacers outscored the Colonels by an 8-2 margin in the second half.

Cody Bachman led the Pacers with three goals and an assist for four points. Rob Maini matched him with two goals and two assists.

Matt Mitarotonda scored two goals. Matt Casto and Vito Barraco each provided a goal and an assist.

Several Pacers scored their first goals of their collegiate career. Mitarotonda, David Smith, Zach Beja, Barraco and Andrew Phillips all made their first appearance in the goals column. Alex Lunsmann tallied his first career assist.

After a difficult game earlier in the week at the x against Scranton, Riley Litman responded in fashion by winning 17 of 21 faceoffs with six ground balls. Justin Einwechter caused five turnovers. Bobby Sedlock and Robbie Pickeral each totaled five ground balls.

Vinny Biancardi made three saves in the fourth period.

Wilkes (0-5) had a trick from John Wink. Colonels' keeper Brian Manning made 15 saves and counted six ground balls.

Marywood wasted no time with three unanswered goals in the first 10 minutes. Bachman and Phillips found the net to make it 5-1 before Wilkes cut the lead to three with Wink's second of the game with 8:30 left in the half.

An Austin Maylor goal with 2:12 remaining sent the Pacers to halftime with an 8-3 lead.

Marywood put the Colonels away with six straight goals over a 16-minute period. Skyler Swope netted the Pacers' second man-up goal in six minute to cap the streak with a 13-3 lead.

The Pacers failed just one clear on 19 tries. Marywood won the ground ball game by a 42-24 margin, and the Pacers outshot Wilkes with a 47-24 advantage.

Marywood takes on Wilkes' next-door neighbor when it hosts King's College Wednesday at 4:00 pm.
