Marywood Opens CSAC Play with 17-5 Win Over Giants

La Plume, PA - Marywood University earned its third consecutive victory with a 17-5 win over Keystone College Wednesday to kick off the Colonial States Athletic Conference men's lacrosse schedule. The Pacers scored the first seven goals in the first  20 minutes of the game. 

Scott Slater and Zach Beja each provided the Pacers with a team-best three goals. Austin Maylor registered four points on a goal and three assists. Cody Bachman was the team's leading point-getter with five points on two goals and three assists. 

Stephen Deiner and Travis Pappas each contributed two goals. Rob Maini, David Smith and Skyler Swope each came through with two points. 

Defensively, Kyle Butera and Swope gathered six ground balls. Riley Litman was 15 of 21 faceoff chances with five ground balls. Justin Einwechter caused three turnovers. 

Vinny Biancardi made seven saves in one half's worth of time in goal. 

Keystone's Pat Hash tallied two goals and two assists. Caleb Strope found the net twice. Matthew Grobelny took the loss with 13 saves. 

Similar to last week's win over King's, Deiner put the Pacers ahead early with a goal 74 seconds into regulation. Jake Drexl took a Maylor pass to goal at the 10:41 mark. Slater finished the quarter with a pair of goals to take a 4-0 lead into the first intermission. 

The Pacers (3-6) scored three times in the first 4:30 of the second period. Maylor took a Robbie Pickeral pass into the net to cap Marywood's seven-point run at the 10:30 mark. Keystone's Strope put the Giants' first point on the board with 6:01 remaining in the half. 

Slater stands three goals shy of the 100 Goal Club. 

Marywood outshot Keystone by a 43-29 rate. The Pacers won the ground ball game (45-27) and were 18 of 24 (75 percent) on clear chances. Marywood converted all three extra-man opportunities. 

The Pacers standby until Saturday when they host rival Gwynedd Mercy University at 4:00 pm.
