Pacers Edged by Pride Despite Second Half Comeback

Greensboro, NC – A late Marywood University comeback was unable to make up a six-goal first half deficit in 13-12 loss to Greensboro College in women's lacrosse. The Pacers allowed eight consecutive goals over a 23-minute span before outscoring the Pride by a 7-4 margin in the second half.

Sam Bussinelli and Ashley Valway each recorded a hat trick for the Pacers. Caitlin Watson matched them with three points on a goal and two assists. Erin Healy contributed two goals and two assists for four points.

Natalie Burke provided two goals and four draw controls. Watson led the team in ground balls and caused turnovers with four apiece.Lauren Smith made 14 saves in net for the Pacers.

Greensboro's Kirstin Norris posted a game-high seven points on four goals and three assists. Alexa Besch lent a hand with three goals and three assists. Kaleigh Hemstock and Megan Cenate both garnered five stops in net.

Marywood scored the game's first two goals on tallies from Healy and Burke in the first five minutes. Just 50 seconds after Burke put the Pacers ahead two-nil, the Pride's Ashlynn Parks jumpstarted the Pride's eight-goal streak. Natalie Ritchey bookended the scoring with a tally at 8:33 to go ahead 8-2. Marywood recouped by finishing the final 6:24 of the half with three out of the four goals scored. Valway's goal with nine seconds left left the Pacers trailing 9-5 at intermission.

After Parks tacked on an FPS goal, Kylie Winton and Burke scored within 45 seconds of each other to cut the Pride's lead to three. Marywood seemed to be in prime position for a comeback when it totaled three straight scores from Businelli, Watson and Healy during a seven-minute stretch. Healy's netter with 9:57 put the Pacers within one at 11-10.

Amira Khatib had other things in mind when she followed through with a Pride goal 33 seconds later. From there on, the Pacers and Pride traded goals. Twenty-five seconds after Khatib's goal, Bussinelli took a Healy pass into the net. Besch's score with 6:03 left enabled the Pride's two-point lead to stand until Valway sliced the deficit to 13-12 with 36 seconds on the clock.

Norris won the draw control, and the undefeated Pride let the clock run down for the victory.

Greensboro outscored the Pacers by a 31-26 margin. Marywood won the ground ball game by a slight 14-10 advantage. Both teams tied with 13 draw controls.

Marywood (0-4) wraps up its spring break trip. It will return to action Tuesday, March 15 to open Colonial States Athletic Conference play at Gwynedd Mercy University.
