Marywood Unable to Curb Misericordia Comeback

Dallas Twp., PA – Misericordia University scored the final five goals to come from behind to defeat Marywood 12-8 Thursday in nonconference women's lacrosse. The Pacers led 8-7 before the Cougars held them scoreless for the final 23:09.

Erin Healy posted a hat trick for the Pacers. Ashley Valway led the team with two goals and two assists for four points.

Sam Bussinelli continued her offensive run with two goals and an assist. Natalie Burke supplied a pair of assists.

Defensively, Caitlin Watson commanded three ground balls and three caused turnovers. Lauren Smith made 15 saves in net.

Erin Baker propelled the Cougars with five goals, including all four Misericordia scores in the first half. Allie Elmes came through with a hat trick. Taylor Simeone and Angelica Balitsos provided four caused turnovers.

Marywood (4-8) led for the majority of the first 47 minutes. Bussinelli sent a Burke pass into net for the Pacers' last lead (8-7) with 23:09 remaining.

Following nearly five minutes of scoreless action, Ashley Hobbs even the score at eight apiece, beginning a barrage of five Cougar goals tallied in 4:04. Fifty-one seconds after Hobbs' equalizer, Elmes put Misericordia ahead 9-7 at the 17:50 mark. Caroline Clee capped the home team's five-goal run.

Neither team scored for the final 14:37 of the contest.

Marywood's largest lead of the game came with 3:45 left in the first half when Healy delivered a Bussinelli feed past the Misericordia keeper.

Misericordia won three-quarters (15-5) of the draw controls. Marywood topped the Cougars 17-16 in ground balls, and the Cougars outshot Marywood by a 30-20 margin.

The Misericordia defense held Marywood to five second-half shots. The loss ends a three-game winning streak for the Pacers.

Marywood returns to action Saturday when it travels to Baltimore to face Notre Dame of Maryland.
