Men's Lacrosse Ends Skid, Defeats Neumann on Senior Day

Scranton, PA - Leading by two late in the first half, Marywood University scored 11 of 12 goals to down Neumann University 18-5 Saturday in Colonial States Athletic Conference men's lacrosse action. The Pacers outshot the Knights by a 53-15 margin. 

Matt Casto scored the most goals for a Marywood player this season with five. He totaled all five within the first 25 minutes of the game. Rob Maini posted three goals and an assist for four points. 

Scott Slater finished with two goals to move into a three-way tie in the Marywood career records book for the second-most scored. He added three assists to double his season total. 

Cody Bachman had seven ground balls and three caused turnovers. He added a goal and an assist in his final game played at Marywood.

Brant Junge and Alex Lunsmann both scored their first career goals. Vinny Biancardi picked up his first win of his career with three saves. Riley Litman won 16 faceoffs and collected six ground balls. 

Neumann's Jeremy Pierson had a pair of goals. Antonio Gibson made nine saves and achieved the rare feat of tallying an assist from the goalkeeper position. 

The first quarter featured a slow tempo with the Pacers adding two goals from Casto and Bachman within 35 seconds of each other. Neumann halved its defiicit with 5:41 remaining with a hard shot from Rob Neri.  Casto and Slater closed out the period with a pair of goals. 

Neumann began to get traction in the second quarter. At the 12:39 mark of the second quarter, Adam Fagan one-time a downfield pass from the keeper Gibson into goal to again cut the Marywood lead to two. Casto needed only 14 seconds to make that a distant memory when Slater fed him another pass for goal. Neumann responded with a Ryan Lee pass that found its way into the net at 6:51 to put the Knights within 5-3 of the Pacers.

Casto kicked off a five-goal run with two straight within 14 seconds of each other. Marywood capped the run when Skyler Swope stole a pass from the goalkeeper and sent it back into net for a 10-3 lead 16 seconds into the second half. 

Chris Favale made two saves off the bench for Marywood. 

Marywood won 19 of 26 faceoffs and failed just one of its 12 clear attempts. The Pacers made better use of its ground ball game by topping the Knights by a 53-30 margin, including winning 28 of 37 in the second half. 

Coach Tyler Perrelle recognized seniors Cody Bachman, Scott Slater, Joe O'Connell, and Stephen Deiner in their final regular season home game. 

Marywood looks to keep itself in contention for a CSAC playoff spot Saturday, April 23 at Immaculata. The Pacers close their regular season with a good matchup at Centenary College on Wednesday, April 27.
