Scranton, PA - Marywood University secured a home game in the Colonial States Athletic Conference women's lacrosse playoffs with a 17-13 win Tuesday over Immaculata University. The Pacers are guaranteed at least the No. 4 seed in the six-team playoff picture.

Ashley Valway totaled eight goals and an assist for nine points. She is the first Marywood player since Allie Sodl on April 17, 2010 to score eight goals in a single game. Valway also corralled six draw controls.

Sam Bussinelli added three goals and an assist. Caitlin Watson provided three assists.

Defensively, Natalie Burke had five caused turnovers and three ground balls. Watson scooped five ground balls and five draw controls.

Lauren Smith made 11 saves for the Pacers. Her counterpart Elizabeth McBride made 12 stops.

Immaculata's Brittany Whailey produced a career-best six goals. Shannon Neill had a goal and three assists, totaling her 100th career goal.

Seniors Michelle Thompson and Amanda Khozouri twice found the back of the net.  Jennifer Newins had a caused turnover and three ground balls.

Marywood showed it came to play with a pair of goals in the first 75 seconds. Khozouri found a way past the goalkeeper 54 seconds into regulation. Valway shelved her first of eight 21 seconds later for a quick 2-0 lead.

The score went back-and-forth for the first 15 minutes when Valway broke a 4-4 stalemate with 12:06 remaining. It kicked off a four-goal run over five minutes that culminated in a Thompson netter from Watson to take a 9-5 lead with 7;25 left. Watson closed the half with a feed to Bussinelli with 44 seconds left to go into halftime with a healthy 11-6 lead.

Immaculata spoiled the Pacers' premature celebration by holding the Forest Green and Gold scoreless for the first 16 minutes of the second half. Whaley tallied a woman-up goal to kick off a four-goal steak of Mighty Mac goals. Rosemarie Reitman followed through on a free-position shot to trim the Marywood lead to one (11-10) with 15:27 left.

Valway and Bussinelli had an answer for the Mighty Macs' riddle with a pair of goals within 28 seconds of each other, the latter's netter from Burke putting the Pacers ahead 13-10 at the 13:23 mark.

Bridget Polansky cut into the home team's lead again to bring the Macs back within two; however, three-straight goals (Valway-Thompson-Valway) put the game out of reach.

Marywood (6-8, 6-2 CSAC) outshot the Mighty Macs by a 32-30 margin. Immaculata won the ground ball game (29-27). Both teams committed 26 turnovers. The Pacers won 19 of 32 draw controls.

The Pacers host Centenary College Saturday at 1:00 pm.
