Marywood Moves Past Summit to Return to CSAC Men's Tennis Championship

Philadelphia, PA – Third-seeded Marywood University advanced to the Colonial States Athletic Conference men's tennis championship with a 5-2 win over No. 2 Summit University of Pennsylvania Friday in the semifinal round.

Marywood (6-7) returns to the CSAC championship to face top-seeded Gwynedd Mercy University after a one-year finals absence. The Pacers made five straight CSAC finals appearances with four-straight championships and NCAA appearances from 2010-13.

The Pacers won the top three singles flights. Fresh off a CSAC Rookie of the Year nod, Alec Bird defeated Spencer Fountain at No. 1 singles by a 6-3, 6-0 score. Ahmed AlOreif breezed past Jason Muller for a 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 2 slot. Dan Tintle sealed the victory with a 6-1, 6-4 triumph at No. 3 singles.

Likewise, Marywood dominated the top of the doubles competition. Bird and AlOreif managed an 8-3 win in the top flight. Brendan Brown and Tintle topped the Defenders' Ryan Landry and Jason Muller by the same score.

Summit (9-5) earned a point in singles and doubles. Dan Decker and Wesley Pincince shut out Bryon Scholl and Zack Haney. Pincince defeated Haney at No. 6 singles by 6-2, 6-2 scores.

The Nos. 4 and 5 singles went unfinished. Scholl led 6-4, 2-2 in the No. 5 singles. Landry was a game away from finishing with a 6-2, 5-3 lead over Brown in the fourth spot.

The Pacers take on the Griffins at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Legacy Youth Tennis Center in Philadelphia. Gwynedd Mercy defeated Neumann University 5-0 in the other semifinal.
