Scranton, PA - Wilkes University used two homers in the opener to defeat host Marywood University 7-1 but the Pacer held off the Lady Colonels for a 7-6 game two win Sunday afternoon in non-conference softball action.  Marywood now stands at 19-13 on the year while Wilkes moved to 11-21.

Wilkes used the long ball to get the game one win as Christina Gambino smacked a two-run shot in the first inning to give the Colonels an early lead.

Haley Welker then added a three-run shot in the 6th as her shot to deep right center bounced off the top of the fence and out to make it a 5-0 game.  Wilkes would add one more run in the seventh before Marywood scored on a RBI groundout from Kirstie Alvarez that scored Brooke Labs.

Alvarez (8-4) suffered the loss on the mound for Marywood after allowing seven runs on 10 hits.  Nicole Cumbo moved to 4-8 for Wilkes after allowing just one hit and striking out four in the complete game win.

In the nightcap, Labs' first inning triple scored two runs and gave the Pacers the early lead.  Wilkes would take a 3-2 lead in the second after a pair of triples and a sacrifice fly, but Marywood went back up 4-3 in the bottom half of the frame when Sarah Recanati singled home Malory Porada to tie the game and Kathleen Rossi reached on an error that would score Recanati.

After a pair of scoreless innings Marywood went up 5-3 on a RBI groundout from Alvarez and extended their lead to 7-3 on a two-run single from Hannah Dolcalovich.

Marywood would allow three runs in the top of the seventh but Katie Siano held off the Colonels for the win.

Marywood returns to action Friday when they host Scranton at 3:00 pm.
