CSAC Awards

Aston, PA – Marywood University freshman attack Ashley Valway was named to the Colonial States Athletic Conference First Team in women's lacrosse, as voted upon by the league's 10 head coaches Friday. Valway led nine Marywood players with postseason awards.

Natalie Burke, Haley Risi, and Lauren Smith were all selected to the Second Team All-CSAC. The conference picked Sam Bussinelli, Michaela DiLorenzo and Caitlin Watson to Honorable Mention status.

Katie Henry was the team's representative on the CSAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

Cabrini College's Sasha Wozniak was named the CSAC Player of the Year. The Cavaliers' Jess Breuning earned the conference's inaugural Defensive Player of the Year laurel and Jackie Neary claimed the CSAC Coach of the Year. Notre Dame of Maryland's Megan Morales claimed the distinction of CSAC Rookie of the Year.

Fresh off a CSAC Offensive Player of the Week laurel, Valway was picked to the First Team after leading the team in goals, assists and points. She scored 37 goals, 15 assists for 52 points. Her highlight of the season came in an eight-goal effort in a 17-13 victory over Immaculata on April 19. It marked the most single-game goals scored by a Pacer since the 2010 season. Valway totaled 11 points in a two-game stretch against Gwynedd Mercy and Cabrini in March.

Burke notched the first postseason award of her women's lacrosse career after leading the Pacers in draw controls and caused turnovers. She corralled 45 draw controls and caused 30 turnovers. Additionally, she was second on the team in assists (13) and ground balls among field players (35). The CSAC named Burke its CSAC Defensive Player of the Week on March 6 and to the Weekly Honor Roll on March 20. For her career, Burke ranks tied for third with 42 assists and fourth with 79 caused turnovers.

Risi also tabbed her first all-conference honors. She caused 12 turnovers, gathered 17 ground balls, and fielded 13 draw controls. Offensively, Risi finished with four goals and an assist. In an 11-9 loss to Hartwick, Risi had four caused turnovers, three draw controls and three ground balls.

Smith returns to Second Team All-CSAC status, previously winning the award in 2014. She ranks second in the conference in save percentage (.506) and saves per game (10.81). Smith sported a 10.56 goals-against average for the year. She won Defensive Player of the Week on April 24 and garnered a Weekly Honor Roll merit on Feb. 29. Smith made 11 saves and kept Centenary to four goals. She ranks second on the team with 36 ground balls, including nine versus Neumann.

Bussinelli turned it on in the second half of the season to finish with 31 goals and 11 assists for 42 points. She was named to the CSAC Honor Roll for the week ending April 10. Bussinelli scored four goals and an assist in wins over Rosemont and Centenary. She previously was named to the Second Team All-CSAC in 2015. Prior to the CSAC playoffs, Bussinelli stands seven points shy of becoming the seventh member of the 100 Point Club.

DiLorenzo collected Honorable Mention honors in her first season on the team. She totaled 22 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers on the year. DiLorenzo had five ground balls and three caused turnovers in a win over Keystone.

Watson also earns her first all-conference award of her career. She earned a CSAC Offensive Player of the Week award on March 6 and named to the CSAC Honor Roll on April 17. Watson stands third on the team with 22 goals, 13 assists for 35 points. She led the team with 41 ground balls. Watson was second in draw controls (42) and caused turnovers (24). Watson scored six goals in a win over Notre Dame of Maryland – then the highest single-game production since 2012. Watson grabbed five ground balls and five draw controls in a key win over Immaculata.

Henry appeared in eight games with six ground balls, two caused turnovers and a draw control. It marks her first postseason award.
