Allentown, PA – Marywood University locked up the number four seed in the upcoming CSAC softball playoffs by sweeping host Cedar Crest College Saturday afternoon.  The Pacers improved to 21-13 on the year (17-5 league) and will host #5 Immaculata University mid-week.

Marywood took the opener 13-4 in six innings.  Cedar Crest left the bases loaded in the sixth and was unable to force a seventh inning.

The Pacers built an early 5-0 lead but the Falcons tightened the game with a three run third.

Marywood would tack on four runs on three hits in the top of the fifth highlighted by a triple to right field from Alexa Scala that scored two runs.  The Pacers then later went up 11-3 when Amanda Bridgwood scored on a wild pitch and finished off their scoring when Scala doubled down the left field line to score Sarah Recanati and Heather Schultz, making it a 13-3 game.

For the opener, Scala was 2-for-4 with a double, triple, two RBI and two runs scored.  Mackie Goodwin went 2-for-3 and Alvarez, who improved to 9-4 on the mound with a complete game four strikeout performance, was 2-for-3 with a triple and RBI at the plate.

In the nightcap, Scala blasted a three-run homer in the second to give Marywood a 4-1 lead and was followed by an RBI double from Brooke Labs as the Pacers went up 5-1.

A solo shot from Scala in the sixth, her team leading third of the year, extended the Marywood lead to 6-1.

After a solo homer from the Falcons made it 6-2, Marywood plated two runs in the top of the fifth to go up 9-2.

Cedar Crest responded with two runs an RBI double in the sixth to make it a 9-4 ballgame.  Kathleen Rossi picked an RBI groundout in the top of the seventh to account for the Pacers final total and to put Marywood back up six, 10-4.

The hosts made things interesting once again in their final at-bats, knocking in four runs in the bottom of the seventh to make it 10-8.

Scala finished the nightcap 2-for-3 with two homers, two RBI and two runs scored. Schultz crossed the plate three times for the Pacers in the win and Rossi finished 2-for-5 with a pair of runs scored.

Alyssa Bavaro (5-5) struck out four over five innings on the mound and Bridgwood shut down the Falcons in the sixth and held them off in the seventh to preserve the win.

Marywood will open the CSAC playoffs at home mid-week as the #4 seed against #5 seed Immaculata University. The Pacers lost the #3 seed by virtue of tiebreaking criteria with Gwynedd Mercy after the two teams split regular season action. The Griffins will be seeded higher by virtue of their win over #1 seed Neumann in the regular season. Game time for the first round game in Scranton will be announced Monday.
