Bussinelli Sparks Pacers in CSAC First Round

Scranton, PA – Marywood University advanced to the Colonial States Athletic Conference women's lacrosse semifinal with a 17-5 first round victory Saturday over Gwynedd Mercy University. The No. 3 Pacers will play at second-seeded Neumann University Wednesday.

Sam Bussinelli scored a career-high six goals and two assists. Her eight points made her the seventh player in school history to reach 100 points for her career. After the Pacers went four years without a six-goal individual game performance, three different players (Watson vs. Immaculata, Valway vs. Centenary, Bussinelli vs. Gwynedd) achieved the feat in the past four games.

Natalie Burke totaled a career-high seven points on a goal and six assists. She moves into third all-time with 48 career assists.

Ashley Valway continued her torrid run with four goals. Valway scored all four of her goals in the first 22 minutes of the game.

Erin Healy and Amanda Khozouri each provided two goals and an assist. Kylie Winton had two points on a goal and an assist, and Caitlin Watson contributed two assists. Michelle Thompson scored a goal in her final game at Marywood.

Defensively, Watson picked up six ground balls to add to her team lead. Jennifer Newins capped her final home game with a team-best three caused turnovers. Valway had six draw controls.
Lauren Smith made 10 saves and allowed just five goals.

Gwynedd Mercy's Danae Perrymond scored four of the team's five goals. Perrymond's third goal marked her 100th of her career in her final collegiate game. Carrie Kilgore also found the back of the net. Brianna Greer had two goals.

Bria Gillard made eight saves for the Griffins.

Marywood outshot the Griffins by a 27-20 rate. The Pacers won ground ball game 26-19 and edged Gwynedd Mercy 14-10 in draw controls.
