Gwynedd Valley, PA - Marywood University split with host Gwynedd Mercy University in CSAC softball action as the Pacers won the opener 8-6 before the Griffins won the nightcap 9-1 in six innings.

Marywood stands at 6-8 (3-1 CSAC) after the split while Gwynedd Mercy moves to 12-6 (3-1).

Alexa Scala and Brooke Labs each went 2-for-4 in the opener with Scala picking up three RBIs as Marywood edged the Griffins by scoring all their runs in the opening three innings.

After building a 2-0 lead in the first thanks to an RBI single from Labs and an unearned run, Marywood exploded for a five-run second thanks to a two-run double from Scala, an RBI groundout from Stephanie Bagniewski and two more unearned runs.

Marywood would go up 8-0 on another RBI from Scala, this time on a single, before the Griffins mounted their comeback that would eventually fall short.  The hosts plated their six runs over their next three at-bats but were eventually held off by the Pacers.

Kirstie Alvarez (4.2 innings pitched) and Katie Siano (3.1 innings) each allowed an earned run on the mound for Marywood with Alvarez picking up another win on the mound to improve to 6-2 on the year. Siano earned her first save of the year.

Gwynedd Mercy kept their hot bats rolling into game two though and scored all nine runs over the opening three innings to salvage the split.

Labs and Kate O'Meara were each 1-for-3 and Sarah Recanati was 1-for-2 to account for Marywood's three hits in the nightcap.  Alyssa Bavaro (0-5) suffered the loss, allowing four earned runs.  Amanda Bridgwood allowed just one hit an no earned runs in three innings of relief. O'Meara had Marywood's RBI.

Marywood returns to action Friday when they host Summit University of Pennsylvania in a CSAC twinbill beginning at 3:00 pm.
