Aston, PA – Third-seeded Marywood University closed the books on the 2016 season with a 20-9 loss to No. 2 Neumann University in the Colonial States Athletic Conference women's lacrosse semifinal. The Knights advance to face top-seeded Cabrini College in the championship Saturday.

After allowing the first two scores of the game to the Pacers, Neumann answered with nine consecutive goals over a 20-minute period in the first half.

Sam Bussinelli led all Pacers with three goals and two assists. Katrina Kelly had a season-best four points on two goals and two assists. Ashley Valway increased her team lead in offensive categories with a goal and two assists, in addition to five draw controls.

Lauren Smith made 12 saves and gathered six ground balls. Defensively, Michael DiLorenzo, Kelly Ciattabone and Caitlin Watson each had three ground balls. Watson and Jennifer Newins each caused two turnovers.

Jordan Hopkins paced Neumann with seven goals. Diana Caicedo provided six goals.

Bussinelli opened the game with a goal 31 seconds into regulation. Natalie Burke followed at the 26:52 mark with a goal to increase the lead to two.

The Knights' Shae Risley kicked off the comeback with a goal from Kaitlyn Conrad at the 25:47. Caicedo's netter with 5:10 left in the first capped the Knights' lead at 9-2.

Neumann's lead grew to as much as 11 in the first seven minutes of the second half. Marywood scored four straight to trim it to its closest margin – seven – before the Knights outscored the Pacers 5-1 in the closing 10 minutes.

Neumann outshot Marywood by a 40-16 margin and won the ground ball game by a 26-22 edge. The Knights were 16 of 17 in clear attempts. Neumann's First Team All-CSAC keeper Becca Wallace made three saves.
