Edwardsville, Pa. - Host Wilkes University jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first 20 minutes of the game and never looked back as the Colonels took the 2016 regular season opener over Marywood University, 5-1. Nicolette Towlen and Aislinn Speranza each had a pair of goals for the hosts while Megan Swiecicki netted Marywood's goal in the loss.

Just over five minutes into the game, Speranza took a feed from Micaela Oliverio in behind the Pacers defense for the first tally of game.  Nearly eight minutes later, Towlen doubled the Colonels' lead off a feed from Olivia Schlottmann.

Towlen would make it 3-0 in the 16th minute with an unassisted tally after she put in a rebound off a shot that originally fired off the far post, finishing into an open net for her second score of the evening.

Speranza then put Wilkes up 4-0 in the 20th minute off an assist from Elena Denger before Swiecicki fired a long range strike over a diving keeper to make it 4-1 in the 22nd minute of action.

Allison Pete scored off a helper from Caroline Connor in the 79th minute to close the scoring.

Wilkes out-shot Marywood 25-10 on the day.  Marywood's Aly Moyer had a game-high 10 saves for the Pacers.

Marywood returns to action Monday with their home opener when they host Lebanon Valley College at 7:00 pm.
