Bower's OT Goal Gives Pacers' First Win over Royals since 1993

Scranton, Pa. – Gabbie Bower scored an overtime goal to give Marywood University a 3-2 victory over crosstown rival The University of Scranton Tuesday in non-conference field hockey action. Bower's game winner gave the Pacers its first victory over Scranton since 1993, ending a 20-game losing streak to the Royals.

In the 78th minute, Waibel fed a pass from the right side. Bower tipped the ball in to the left side of the cage to seal the victory.

Bower finished with two goals for the game. Tori Jo Kakusian also supplied the Pacers (5-2) with her seventh goal of the year.

Kerri Mountz earned the victory with seven saves in 77 minutes, 8 seconds. Waibel and Lindsey Quinn each added an assist.

Trailing 1-0 at the half, Bower evened the score at one apiece in the 53rd minute. Off of a penalty corner, Quinn batted a high shot to Bower. Bower tipped the ball into the cage.

Less than two minutes, Kakusian took a pass off of a corner. She dribbled toward the net and rifled a shot for a 2-1 lead.

Scranton's Elizabeth Yorey sent the game back to a stalemate with a penalty stroke goal in the 61st minute.

Marywood out-shot the Royals by a 12-9 margin. The Pacers doubled their crosstown rivals (8-4) in penalty corners.

The Royals (3-4) also received a goal from Meredith Campbell and an assist from Katherine McVeagh.

Marywood opens Colonial States Athletic Conference play Saturday when it hosts Cedar Crest College at 1:00 pm.
