Marywood Improves CSAC Mark with Split at Alvernia

Reading, Pa. – Marywood University picked up a win in Colonial States Athletic Conference play by downing Rosemont College Saturday in three sets. The Pacers split the tri-match, falling to host Alvernia University in four sets.

The Pacers improved their conference record to 2-1 with a win by scores of 25-13, 25-20, 25-10 over the Ravens. After dropping the first set, Marywood evened the match with the Alvernia volleyball team before succumbing by 25-12, 19-25, 25-16, 25-16 scores.

Danielle DeIulio combined for 59 assists in the two matches. DeIulio stands one assist shy of reaching the 1,000 plateau for her career.

Marywood 3, Rosemont 0

In the win over the Ravens, DeIulio provided the team with 29 assists. Peri Sheerin was the leading attacker with nine kills on 16 attempts with just one errors for a .500 attack percentage.

Shayna Finn totaled nine digs. Gabby Santos had eight kills and four aces. Shannon Hupert added seven kills with just one assist.

Marywood shot .236 for the game. The Pacers were .500 in the first set and .467 in the third, overcoming an even second set that had 10 errors. Rosemont shot minus-.031 for the match.

The Ravens' Leilan Naone-Carter garnered three aces.

In the first set, DeIulio broke open a one-point game (9-8) with five straight service points. In the second, Rosemont kept the set close to the end. With Marywood leading 23-20, Besecker closed the match with a kill and a service ace on straight points. The Pacers dominated the third set, scoring the first five points and rushing out to a 20-8 lead.


Alvernia 3, Marywood 1

Marywood could not hang on in a four-set loss to Alvernia. Sheerin sported a team-high in with 12 kills, and Mallorie Deschaine returned to the lineup with a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs.

Santos did not commit an error with seven kills on 18 attempts. Finn totaled 10 digs from the libero position.

DeIulio continued her stride with 30 assists, five aces, seven digs, and three blocks.

Jordan Vossler tacked on four aces and nine digs.

The Alvernia volleyball team had three players with double-doubles. Laura Wachowicz notched 16 kills and 14 digs. Abby O'Donnell generated 37 assists and 12 digs. Kristen Sipling chimed in with 14 kills and 13 digs, in addition to seven aces.

Marywood shot .117 for the match, compared to Alvernia's .331 mark.

The Pacers look to improve their conference record Wednesday when they travel to Cairn University.
