Slow Start Haunts Volleyball in Home Opener

Scranton, Pa. – Marywood University fell in its home volleyball opener to Ursinus College in three sets by scores of 25-6, 25-21, 25-13. The Pacers are winless through five matches, while the Bears improve their record to 4-2 overall.

Mallorie Deschaine led the team with 10 kills and 11 digs. Danielle DeIulio finished with 22 assists. Jordan Vossler contributed 10 digs.

Mikayla Attwood was responsible for two solo blocks. Katharine McGrath provided two block assists.

Ursinus' Allison Raff led the Bears with 14 kills and two errors for a .364 attack percentage. Kelly Piotrwicz netted 13 assists.

Four Bears finished with double-digit digs.

The Bears committed just one errors to the Pacers' nine in the first set. Marywood nearly stormed back in the second set, holding onto an 18-18 tie before the Bears pulled ahead late.

Ursinus finished with a .233 attack percentage to the Pacers' .039.

Marywood travels to Salisbury University this weekend where it will face off against the Seagulls, Weselyan, Elizabethtown and McDaniel.
