Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University rallied late and held off Cairn University in a low scoring affair as the Pacers (2-13, 2-6 CSAC) edged the Highlanders 48-43 for a league win.  Marywood limited the visitors to 27.5% shooting from the floor and 20% from behind the arc in the win.

Cairn was 0-for-16 from three-point range before hitting their first long-ball of the game well into the second half.  Unfortunately for Marywood, their offensive production was not much better as the Pacers shot 35.3% from the fiend hit just 22% of their three point attempts.

The clear advantage for the hosts came on the charity stripe, where Marywood was a perfect 8-for-8 and Cairn hit only 10 of 19 attempts.

Both teams struggled mightily from the field, especially in the first half.  Cairn was 6 of 29 (20.7%) from the floor and 0 of 13 from three point range. The Highlanders also hit just three of nine free throw attempts.  Marywood was 7 of 24 (29.2%) from the floor and had a pair of threes from Jeremy Ringland and Tyler Andersen but went 0-8 otherwise (2 for 10 total) in the opening half.

Cairn had a 12-4 advantage scoring in the paint but Marywood's bench outscored that of the visitors, 10-2. Marywood went into the locker room with a 18-15 lead thanks to a last second three from Ringland.

Both team's offensive woes continued early in the second half.  Cairn hit their first three with 16:32 to go to tie the game at 20-20.  Ringland would pick up a defensive block that Tip Swartz turned into a fast break to put Marywood up 26-24 with 15:45 left, and Marywood would force another turnover that Ringland converted into a bucket to make it 28-24 moments later.

Gerroid Doughty II, who had a game-high 16 for Cairn, would hit a three while being fouled with 9:50 to go to make it 28-27, but would miss the free throw that could have tied the contest.

Seconds later, a Zachary Dalton three gave the Highlanders a 30-28 lead and the visitors would close their small run with another bucket to force a Marywood timeout with the Pacer trailing, 32-28.

Later down 37-30, Marywood went on a 8-0 run highlighted by two three pointers to reclaim the lead with 4:33 to go.  After a Cairn three put the Highlanders up 40-38, a key offensive charge, turnover and technical swayed the rest of the game.

Anderson made both freebies to put the Pacers up 42-40, extending Marywood's run to 6-0.  A pair of Michael Rotell free throws with 2:59 to go put Marywood up 46-40 and completed an 8-0 run that sealed the win.

Without a player in double figures, Marywood got balanced scoring led by team high's of nine from Swartz and Rotell.  Ringland and Andersen each finished with seven.

Marywood travels to nearby Clarks Summit University Wednesday for a 7:00 pm league tilt.
