Clarks Summit, Pa. – Marywood University held off host Clarks Summit University for a  67-62 Colonial States Athletic Conference men's basketball win Wednesday evening. The Pacers improved to 3-13 (3-6 CSAC) while the Defenders slipped to 1-15 (0-9 league).

James Curley and Connor Shroyer led the Pacers with 15 apiece while Tip Swartz chipped in 12 and added a game high eight boards.

John McCloskey led three Defenders in double digits with a game high 20.

In a tight first half, the hosts went into the break with a one point lead, 33-32.  The Defenders hit 42% from the floor in the opening half compared to Marywood's 35.5% shooting, but roles reversed in the second half as Marywood took over.

Marywood hit 52.4% of their shots in the second stanza and held CSU to 32.3% shooting.  Both teams struggled from long range with Marywood hitting 6 of 20 three point attempts and Clarks Summit hitting 10 of 25.

Marywood outscored CSU 30-20 in the paint and the Pacers' bench had an 11-4 edge over that of the Defenders.  Marywood outrebounded the hosts, 36-25.
Marywood grabbed a one point lead (38-37) on a layup from Shroyer at the 17:06 mark of the second half and never relinquished the lead from there.  The Pacers went up by as many as 11 (54-43) with just over 10 to go thanks to a pair of free throws from Dexter Shy.

CSU would not go away though and cut the Pacers' lead to three (54-51) when McCloskey capped a 8-0 run for the hosts with a trey.  Marywood responded with a 5-0 run to regain a comfortable lead, but again the hosts battled back, making it a two point game (59-57) with 2:57 left after another three from McCloskey.

Another quick 5-0 run for the Pacers extended the Marywood lead to 64-57 with under two to go, and despite another three from the Defenders with 30 ticks left the Pacers were able to seal the win on the free throw line.

Marywood is back on the hardwood Saturday at 4:00 pm when the Pacers travel to Radnor to take on Cabrini University.
