Scranton, Pa. – Visiting Gwynedd Mercy University used a 10-2 run to close the first half and never relinquished the lead from there as the Griffins went on for a 75-65 men's basketball win over Marywood Wednesday evening at the Insalaco Center.

Gwynedd Mercy improved to 15-3, 9-2 CSAC with the win while Marywood fell to 3-15, 3-8.

Cedric Elleby led all scorers with 21 points for GMU.  Rip Engel added 15 while two other Griffins had 11. Elleby completed a double-double with a game high 12 boards.

Connor Shroyer led four Pacers in double figures with 16. Jeremy Ringland had 13 while Tyler Andersen (12) and Dexter Shy (10) also reached double digits.
Down 25-24 after a three from Marywood's Andersen with 5:06 remaining in the first half, the visitors outscored Marywood 10-2 the rest of the way to go into the locker room with a comfortable 34-27 lead.

The second half proved to be much of the same for Marywood, who shot 37.7% from the floor despite hitting nine of their 23 three point attempts.

Marywood would cut the GMU lead to single digits several times, including to four after a pair of Andersen freebies with less than two minutes to play, but could never capitalize on their momentum as Elleby and the rest of the Griffins kept the Pacers at bay.

Marywood travels to Rosemont Saturday for a 2:00 pm CSAC tilt against the Ravens.
