Scranton, Pa. – Marywood University rallied from a nine point third quarter deficit to pick up a thrilling 51-43 Colonial States Athletic Conference women's basketball win over Gwynedd Mercy University Wednesday evening at the Insalaco Arena.

Coupled with a Cabrini loss to Immaculata, Marywood (12-6, 8-1 CSAC) moves into sole possession of first place in the CSAC standings.  Gwynedd Mercy fell to 9-9 (7-2) with the loss.

The win also marked the seventh straight victory for the Pacers, who got balanced scoring throughout and were led by Gab Giordano's team-high 11.  GMU got a game-high 19 from Nicole Dombrowski, who completed a double-double with 10 boards.

In a game that lived up to the billing, the visitors jumped out to an early 8-2 lead over the opening 3:05 behind a pair of three pointers.  Marywood slowly chipped away at that lead and eventually tied the contest at eight off a Alyssa Olson layup.

A pair of three pointers by GMU's Jayla Green and Marywood's Catie Nealon ended the first quarter with the teams tied at 11-11.

Neither team could break free in the second quarter as the score was tied three times and the lead changed hands twice.  Marywood had a 19-18 lead before a layup from Charlotte Kucowski gave the visitors a 20-19 lead at the break.

Both teams struggled from the floor in the first half with GMU going 8 of 28 from the floor and Marywood hitting only 9 of 30 attempts.

Early in the third, it looked as if the Griffins would leave Scranton happy as GMU opened the quarter on an 8-0 run to build a nine point lead (28-19).  Still holding a nine point lead (30-21) moments later, Marywood again slowly battled back, eventually cutting the visitor's lead to three off a pair of Erika Thomas free throws.

Just before the end of the frame, Kylie Devin drained a layup to cut the Pacers' deficit to one, 34-33.

Devlin then opened the fourth by draining a three from the top left corner of the arc, giving Marywood their first lead of the second half, 36-34.

After Gwynedd tied the game at 36-36 and reclaimed the lead one more time, Marywood took the lead for good on a Jordan Barth trey with 6:27 to play.

The visitors would get back to within one (41-40) with under three to go, but Marywood's defense limited the Griffins to just three points the rest of the way as the Pacers sealed the win.  When all was said and done, Marywood had outscored the Griffins 18-9 in the final quarter of play.

Eight of nine Pacers dressed for the game contributed points.  Giordano led Marywood with 11 while Nealon had nine.  Barth finished with eight while Devlin and Natasha Hessling each contributed seven.

Marywood will look to extend their win streak to eight games Saturday when the Pacers travel to Baltimore to face off against Notre Dame of Maryland University at 2:00 pm.
