Women's Hoops Opens New Year with Romp of Falcons

Allentown, Pa. - Marywood University opened the calendar year with a 69-42 victory over Cedar Crest College Tuesday in Colonial States Athletic Conference women's basketball. The Pacers raced to a 21-point lead in first quarter by outscoring the Falcons by a 27-6 margin. 

Natasha Hessling posted a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Lisa Steakin propelled the Pacers with 16 point on a 7 of 9 performance from the field. 

Gab Giordano produced 10 points and six assists. Erika Thomas also reached double figures with 10, in addition to five steals. 

The Pacers shot 47.6 percent from the field and held Cedar Crest to a paltry 27.3 percent. Marywood out-rebounded the home team with a 44-31 advantage. 

Geminii Cabrera had 18 points to her name for the Falcons (2-7, 0-3 CSAC). Taylor Osley chipped in with 12 points. 

The Pacers jumped out of the gate with the game's first 10 points in a 2:36 span. Thomas posted the first seven points, and Hessling added an old-fashioned three-point play for an early 10-0 lead. An Olsey long-range shot was all the Falcons could muster, and the Pacers went on a 13-point run. Steakin drained a 3 for a 23-3 lead with 2:32 remaining. 

Marywood (6-6, 2-1 CSAC) seeks to improve with another road trip to LaPlume, Pa. to take on Keystone College Thursday night.
