Men's Soccer Drops Regular Season Finale, Travel to Neumann Tuesday

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood men's soccer fell to Alvernia University 6-0 in the non-conference regular season finale for both squads. The Pacers head into the Colonial States Athletic Conference playoffs with a 8-8 overall mark while the Golden Wolves improved to 10-8-1 on the year.

Raine Slovak had two goals and an assist to lead the visitors, who scored four goals in a 10-minute span in the second half to break the game open.

Slovak got the visitors on the board in the 15th minute of action when he punched home a Metung Esong cross from the middle of the box.

The score would remain 1-0 until the 59th minute when Slovak intercepted an attempted clear from a Marywood defender and scored from the top of the 18-yard box.

Just over four minutes later, the Golden Wolves struck again when Slovak sent in a corner kick that Alex Pearson headed home to put the visitors up 3-0.

In the 67th minute, Alvernia went up 4-0 when Adam Orndorff sent in a cross from the endline that Ayinde Cole headed home from five yards out.  The visitors added their fourth goal in a 10 minute span, and third in a row off a header, as Matt Lee headed in a Damien Jennings corner kick in the 68th minute.

Collin Miller closed the scoring on the day with an 80th minute tally off an assist from Peppe Mini.

Marywood is the #5 seed in the CSAC playoffs and will travel to #4 Neumann Tuesday for a 6:00 pm first round game.  The Pacers fell to the Knights 1-0 after an early goal just last week.

#1 Cabrini will host the lowest remaining seed in Thursday's semifinal round and #2 Keystone will host the second lowest remaining seed. The other first round game features #6 Cairn at #3 Centenary.  The winners of those games will meet Saturday at the highest remaining seed for the CSAC's Championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament.
