Gators' Comeback Haunts Pacers in CSAC First Round

Scranton, Pa. – The Marywood University women's volleyball season came to a close after an upset rally by Notre Dame of Maryland Tuesday in the Colonial States Athletic Conference first round. The No. 6 Gators came back from two sets down to defeat the third-seeded Pacers.

Notre Dame Maryland beat the Pacers by scores of 19-25, 19-25, 25-21, 30-28, 15-10.

Marywood led 19-14 in the third set before the Gators stormed back with seven straight points. The Pacers had match point three times in the fourth set.

Mikayla Attwood posted 12 kills and the third-highest attack percentage for a single match on record. Atwood committed just one error on 19 attempts for a .579 hitting mark. She finished with three total blocks.

Gabriella Santos had a monster game with 14 kills, 13 digs, and five aces. Annie Heyen finished with 40 assists with nine digs.

Peri Sheerin led the Pacers with 15 kills with a .103 attack percentage. Jordan Vossler took the load defensively with 26 digs.

Katherine McGrath blocked five shots for the Pacers.

Notre Dame's Sarah Sweet posted 23 kills with just five errors on 57 hits. She had a .316 attack percentage with six aces.

Mary Marquez tallied 22 digs for the Gators. Jamie Reyes supplied 39 digs.

Marywood jumped out to early leads in the first and second sets, and staved off the Gators the rest of the way. In the third, three service aces in four serves by Santos created a 19-14 advantage. Sweet had three straight aces as part of a seven-point run to retake the lead. Tied at 21, Bobbi McDowell led the Gators to score the final four points.

In the fourth set, it was the Pacers climbing out of a hole. Trailing 19-15, Katie Bilello's service game engineered a five-point swing that gave the Pacers a one-point lead. Notre Dame Maryland had set point but Heyen redirected a set to even the score. The teams traded placed four times but Notre Dame won the match with kills by Kayleigh Davis and Sweet.

With a one point lead, Notre dame scored the final four points of the fifth set.

The Gators will face top-seeded Cabrini University in the semi.
