Field Hockey Falters in CSAC Semis

Radnor, Pa. - Host and second-seed Cabrini University scored two early second half goals and held off Marywood University in a defensive battle as the Cavaliers advanced to the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) field hockey championshig game with a 2-0 win over the third-seeded Pacers.  Cabrini improved to 8-9 on the year while Marywood's season came to a close at 5-13.

Afeter neither team registered a shot in the first half, Cabrini broke through with what would be the eventual game-winner.  7:31 into the second, Alexandra Swallow found the back of the cage off a cross from Sara DeVita.

Just under five minutes later the Cavaliers notched an insurance tally as Sara Johnsen scored unassisted by one-timing home the ball after a defensive turnover.

Cabrini outshot Marywodo 4-3 with both teams placing three shots on frame.  Marisa Mongioi made one defensive save for Marywood in the loss.  Taylor Bookman stopped all three Marywood shots to earn the shutout in goal.

Cabrini will travel to top-seed Gwynedd Mercy for Saturday's title game.  The CSAC Championship and automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament is on the line.

Wednesday's semifinal marked the final games of Marywood seniors Meredith Yozwiak, Cassie Stockwell and Tori Jo Kakusian.
