Early Momentum Stalls Against No. 19 Scranton

Scranton, Pa. – Marywood University led No. 19 University of Scranton after one quarter before the Royals pulled away to give the Pacers' a 76-53 loss on Tuesday in women's basketball. The Pacers led by three after the first 10 minutes, but Scranton outscored them 25-7 in the second quarter to separate themselves.
 
Marywood remains winless on the season after three contests.
 
Freshman Erika Bistran continued her success by posting a team-best 14 points. She made half of her eight shots from the field.
 
Aryah Aungst reached double digits for the first time with 12 points, making a team-high five field goals. Catie Nealon hit three 3-pointers for 11 points.
 
Natasha Hessling posted seven rebounds. Alyssa Olson had eight points.
 
Marywood outrebounded the Royals by a 36-35 margin. Scranton made over half (51.7 percent) of its shots, while Marywood only made 32.3 percent of its attempts.
 
Scranton's Bridgette Mann finished with 24 points. Makenzie Mason had 18 points and five assists.
 
After going ahead 7-2 from the get-go, Marywood allowed an 11 point run over a 2:30 span. The Pacers trailed by six (18-12) before closing the Royals out for the final 3:36 of the first quarter on a nine-point streak. Nealon made a layup on a fast break started by an Olson steal at 2:22. Bistran cut the deficit to one with a 3-pointer. Nealon fed a ball inside to Hessling to take the lead, and Olson made a basket in the paint to head into the first break with a 21-18 lead.
 
Scranton recouped itself and kept the Pacers scoreless for the first 7:42 of the second quarter en route to a 17-point run. Mann and Julia Gantz hit back-to-back 3-pointers to tie the game and take the lead on the Royals' first two possessions of the frame.
 
Marywood hosts rival Gwynedd Mercy University on Nov. 29 in its home opener.
