Women's Basketball Downs Mighty Macs for 12th Straight Win

Immaculata, Pa. – Marywood University extended its program record to 12 straight wins by topping Immaculata University 57-51 Saturday in Colonial States Athletic Conference women's basketball action. The Pacers have not lost in the 2017 calendar year.

With the win, Marywood (17-6, 13-1 CSAC) will at least tie for first place in the conference playoff hunt with a possibility of as much as a four-way tie for home court advantage. The Pacers have two games remaining against Cedar Crest and Neumann.

Natasha Hessling set a career high with 20 points. She went 10 of 15 from the field. Hessling finished a rebound shy of a double-double.

Gab Giordano supplied the Pacers with 11 points. Catie Nealon had a career-best 12 rebounds.

Tamyra Laws led Immaculata (8-15, 8-6 CSAC) with a double-double. She finished with 26 points and 14 rebounds. Theresea Walsh tallied seven steals.

Marywood dominated the paint to the tune of a 49-34 rebound advantage.

The Pacers owned a comfortable 30-17 lead at halftime by holding the Mighty Macs to 18.2 percent shooting in the first 20 minutes.

After Immac took its largest lead of the game (9-6) on a Theresa Walsh 3-pointer, Marywood outscored the Mighty Macs 9-1 over the final four minutes of the half. Hessling tied the game at 10 apiece with a layup and gave the team the lead on a layup off of an offensive rebound on the ensuing possession.

It kicked off a 15-point run that lasted more than eight minutes. Immaculata did not score until the 4:36 mark of the second quarter.

Sixteen of Hessling's 20 points came in the first half.

Immaculata came within two possessions when Gina Cocci hit a 3-pointer with 17 seconds left to cut the deficit to five. Alyssa Olson made a free throw to extend it to a 57-51 lead. Cocci was unable to hit a 3-pointer, and Olson made a steal to finish the contest.

Marywood will look to secure the No. 1 seed when it hosts Cedar Crest College Wednesday.
