Men's Hoops Sweeps Season Series of Rival Keystone

Scranton, Pa. – Marywood University completed a season sweep of Keystone College for the second time in three seasons with a 77-68 victory Wednesday in Colonial States Athletic Conference men's basketball action. Winners of the previous meeting by a 74-68 score, the Pacers improve to 5-19 overall and 5-12 in conference play. The Giants drop to 7-17 overall and 4-13 in the CSAC.       
 
Five Marywood players finished in double figures. Jeremy Ringland posted a game-high 20 points for Marywood. He was joined in double-figures by James Curley (13), Tom DeFilippo (13), Tip Swartz (12), and Shroyer (11). 

Swartz was a rebound shy of a double-double with a team-best nine boards.

The Pacers finished the contest shooting 38.7 percent from the field, 37 percent from beyond the arc, and 82.6 percent from the free throw line.
In a close contest, Marywood trailed for only 77 seconds in the battle between the two local rivals.

Marywood took an 11-6 lead just over five minutes into Wednesday night's contest and maintained a narrow edge over the next seven and a half minutes. Keystone used a 6-0 run to claim a 20-19 edge on a layup by ShaShawn Drayton at the 7:19 mark. 
 
Tied at 21-apiece, the Pacers connected on back-to-back DiFilippo and Mike Rotell 3-pointers to go back up by six, holding on for a 33-28 lead into the halftime break.
 
Marywood pushed its lead to 38-30 on a Curley trey two minutes into the second half. Keystone battled back with a 14-5 run over the next five minutes, taking a 44-43 edge on a lay-in from Ray Mills with 12:39 remaining in regulation. 

The Pacers took the lead back on a Swartz long range shot with 10:02 remaining in the contest. It spurred a 12-5 streak, and a pair of Ringland free throws supplied the team with a 60-53 advantage with 6:43 left.

Marywood benefited from making 10 of 12 free throws from the line down the stretch to seal the nine-point victory.
 
Free throw shooting proved to be a difference in the game. Marywood made 19 of 23 shots from the charity stripe. Meanwhile, on the same number of attempts, Keystone made merely 11 shots at a 47.8 percent clip.

John Kirkpatrick led the Giants with 14 points for Keystone. Bryan Williams added a double-double on 13 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Deion Monroe and Mark Gilliam reached double figures in scoring with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Marywood will close its season Saturday when it hosts No. 20 Neumann University at approximately 3:00 pm.
