Scranton, Pa. – Marywood University picked up its first men's lacrosse victory of the season with a 10-6 win over Wilkes University Wednesday. The Pacers scored seven straight goals over a 30-minute span.

Matt Casto led the Pacers (1-1) with two goals and two assists, as well as tying for a team-lead with five ground balls.

Rob Maini provided Marywood with a goal and two assists for three points. Matt Mitarotonda doubled his career total with two goals.

Marywood's Zach Vaughan, Eric Morin, Robbie Pickeral and Sean Higgins all tallied a goal. Luke Shedler posted his first career goal. Both Skyler Swope and Austin Maylor racked an assist.

Defensively, Pickeral and Riley Litman joined Casto with five ground balls. Litman won 12 of 20 faceoff opportunities at a 60 percent clip.

In goal, Vinny Biancardi made 12 saves and allowed six goals.

Wilkes (0-1) received a goal and assist from Glenn Weist and John Wink. JT Weitzel totaled five ground balls.

Carter Whittemore made 14 saves in net, in addition to four ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Marywood started things off with a goal by Pickeral from Casto at the 10:16 mark. Ninety seconds later, Gerard Setteducato evened the score at 1-1 for the Colonels. Marywood and Wilkes traded goals again as the Colonels Matt LaSorsa squared the scoreboard at two apiece at the 2:26 mark.

Twenty-seconds later, Shedler started off a string of seven-straight Marywood goals over nearly a 30-minute span. Casto posted his first of the day via Maini 50 seconds later to wrap up the first quarter with a 4-2 lead.

Vaughan and Mitarotonda found the net in the second quarter to double the Pacers' lead to four (6-2) at the end of the first half.

Trailing 9-2, Wilkes' Matthew Bush ended the Colonels' slide with 3:01 left in the third. After a Higgins' tally, Wilkes wrapped up the game with three straight goals and held the Pacers scoreless for the final 16:50.

Marywood outshot Wilkes by a 42-34 rate. The Pacers had a 47-36 advantage in ground balls and failed just one clear out of 21 attempts.

The Pacers will host St. Mary's College of Maryland Saturday at 4:00 pm.
