Pacers Roast Knights for Second Win to Start Season

Newburgh, N.Y. – Lauren Smith became Marywood University's all-time winningest goalkeeper in a 19-5 rout of Mount Saint Mary (N.Y.) Wednesday in women's lacrosse. It is the Pacers' second-straight victory to start the season.

Gwyneth Gleason carried the Pacers with four goals and two assists. She also added four draw controls. Ashley Valway contributed four goals and an assist.

Natalie Burke scored two goals and two assists for four points. Her two assists ties her with Sarah Caughy '14 for second all-time in program history. Burke also tallied five draw controls and three caused turnovers.

Sam Bussinelli provided a goal and three assists for four points, as well.

Defensively, Michaela DiLorenzo and Zoe Simeone each caused three turnovers.

Smith made six saves for her team-record 26th career win.

Marywood outscored the Knights 7-1 in the first half. Gleason started things off with a free-position goal 2:07 into the contest. Valway took a Gina Babcock feed to double the lead at 2-0. Gleason notched a woman-down goal at 13:58 before Burke registered a free-position shot of her own.

Mount Saint Mary did not score its first until 10:34 remaining in the game. The Knights picked up steam in the second half by posting a pair in less than a minute to slim the deficit to 7-3. Bussinelli had other plans and fed a Katrina Kelly and Valway goal within a 15-second span.

Marywood had seven-straight goals in the second half. Kristie Roth and Kylie Winton had their first goals of the year.

Katie Gattoni had the bulk of the Knights' scoring with three goals and two assists. Amanda Picillo made 14 saves.

Marywood outshot Mount Saint Mary by a 38-14 margin and held onto a 21-15 advantage in ground balls. Both teams went 12 for 18 on clear
attempts. 

The Pacers host Arcadia University Saturday at noon.
