Fort Pierce, Fla. - James Goetz struck out seven in a complete game effort to lead Marywood University to their first win of the season and Justin Haddix also picked up seven K's in a loss as Marywood split with Albright College to open their spring break trip at the Lawnwood Complex in Fort Pierce, Florida, Monday.  Marywood took game one 4-2 before falling to the Lions 3-1 in the nightcap.

In the opener, Marywood jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first thanks to a Vince Rebar triple to right field that would score Goetz, who had a one-out single to right to get a runner on base for the Pacers.

Albright, who rallied for a 5-4 win over the Pacers in Marywood's season opener mid-week in Reading, answered with one run in the fifth.  But Marywood plated two more in the top of the sixth thanks to a huge Jake Schuster double to left that scored two runs.

That would prove to be enough for Goetz in the opener, as he allowed just one more run in the bottom of the frame to pick up Marywood's first win of the season.

In the nightcap, Justin Haddix was also strong on the mound, picking up seven strikeouts as well, despite Marywood falling 3-1.  All of the scoring for game two would come in the first two innings, as the Lions plated three in the first and Marywood answered with one in the bottom of the second on a Chase Jones RBI groundout.

Marywood was limited to four hits in game two, one apiece from Vince Rebar, Matt Staback, Jake Schuster and Anthony Navaro. Trevor Powers pitched a scoreless inning of relief for Haddix, who went six strong without allowing an earned run.

Rebar and Schuster both went 2-for-3 in the opener, with Schuster picking up two RBI and Rebar scoring two runs.  Schuster added another double in game two.
Marywood returns to the diamond tomorrow to take on Geneva College (Pa.) in a twinbill slated for a 10:00 am start.
