Clermont, Fla. - Marywood University's softball team dropped to 0-5 on the young season as the Pacers suffered losses to the University of Rochester and Keene State College Thursday night in Florida. Marywood fell 9-3 to Rochester and 15-14 to Keene State.

Rochester improved to 8-1 on the year with the win over Marywood while Keene State leveled their record at 5-5.

In the opener against the Yellowjackets, Rochester jumped ahead, 5-0, through three innings with three of the runs unearned. Marywood managed only two hits over the first four innings as Sarah Recanati singled with one out in the top of the first and Sam Reid singled in the fourth with Brooke Labs on first after a Rochester infield error.  But the Yellowjackets got a lineout to right and a pair of strikeouts to get out of the inning.

Marywood climbed back into it in the fifth.  Lauryn Butler singled and Kirstie Alvarez walked. Alexa Scala singled Butler home with Alvarez moving to third, then Recanati hit a sac fly to left, scoring Alvarez. After a Rochester pitching change, Labs singled to send Scala to third. Labs stole second and when the ball got away from our catcher, Scala scored on the wild pitch.

Rochester countered the three-run fifth with one run in the fifth (a home run by Jocelynn Blackshear) and three more runs in the sixth, two coming on a homer by Eleni Wechsler.

Against Keene State, Marywood held a 14-10 lead until KSC scored five in the top of the seventh for the win.  The two teams would combine for 11 errors to create the high scoring affair.

Kaitlyn Epler had two hits and a pair of RBI to lead Marywood. Scala and Malory Porada also had a pair of hits while Hannah Docalovich and Kelsey Killeen each had two RBI.

The Pacers close out their spring break trip to Florida with a pair of games against Bethany College (W.V.) and Saint Mary's College of Indiana on Friday.
