Baseball Sweeps Bethany to Close Florida Trip

Fort Pierce, Fla. - Marywood University closed their spring break trip on a positive note, sweeping Bethany College (W.V.) by scores of 4-3 and 8-3 Friday morning in Florida.  The Pacers stand at 3-6 after their spring break trip.

In the opener, Vince Rebar continued his hot start by going 3-for-4 with two runs scored while Jake Schuster (2-for-3) and Matt Staback (2-for-4) each had two RBI to help Marywood to the 4-3 win.  Pitcher James Goetz added a double and one run scored to help preserve his victory on the mound.

Goetz went the distance for the Pacers, striking out four while allowing just one earned run for his second win of the season.  

Marywood plated two runs in the first and broke a 3-3 tie with a run in the top of the seventh as Staback singled home Goetz, who had reached on his double.

In game two, Marywood jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the opening inning and added two more runs in the next two frames to make it 6-0 by the end of the third. The Pacers added two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth to extend their lead to 8-3, which turned out to be the final.

Rebar was 3-for-3 in game two with a double and three RBI, while Schuster and David Ortiz also doubled.  Ortiz and Austin Takvor each went 2-for-3 at the plate.

On the mound, Justin Haddix picked up his first win of the year with a five-inning performance. Haddix struck out six and allowed just three hits.  Trevor Powers completed the final two innings on the mound with one strikeout.
