Catholic Rides Early Run to Victory over Men's Lacrosse

Washington, D.C. – The Catholic University of America men's lacrosse team scored the first eight goals of the game in a 14-8 win over Marywood University Friday in men's lacrosse. The Pacers were unable to overcome the hole the rest of the way, despite outscoring the Cardinals 6-5 in the second half. 

Catholic came out on fire as it held Marywood off the scoresheet while putting in six goals. The Cardinals led, 8-1, seven minutes into the second and took a 9-2 advantage into the break.

The Pacers were able to close the gap and made it a 13-7 game with under a minute left in the third, but the Cards came back to own the fourth as they held Marywood to just one more score while matching it on Keith's finally tally of the day.

Catholic earned the groundball battle, 35-20, and won 18 of 26 faceoffs.

The Cardinals also outshot the Pacers, 37-29, including a 15-1 mark in the first period.

Rob Maini led the Pacers with four goals and an assist for a team-high five points. Luke Shedler provided the team with a goal and an assist. 

Matt Mitarotonda won 6 of 12 faceoffs and tallied five ground balls. Justin Einwechter collected three ground balls. 

Robbie Pickeral caused a pair of turnovers. 

Vinny Biancardi made eight saves in goal. Chris Favale stopped three of the four shots faced. 

Marywood is slated to host crosstown rival The University of Scranton on Wednesday.
