Rosemont, Pa. – Marywood University's tough non-conference schedule to open the 2017 softball season paid off as the Pacers rolled past Rosemont College in both ends of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon to start CSAC play.  Marywood beat the Ravens 12-1 in the opener and 13-1 in game two, both in five innings, to improve to 2-9 on the year.

In the opener, Alexa Scala was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and five RBI to lead Marywood.  Kaitlyn Epler was also 3-for-4 and had a triple and three runs scored while Heather Schultz was 3-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored.  Brooke Labs was 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and two runs scored.

Marywood scored in each inning, highlighted by a four-run first and three-run fifth that put the game away early.

Kirstie Alvarez got the win on the mound for her first victory of the year and to improve to 1-4. Alvarez pitched 4.1 innings and struck out four without allowing a hit.  Alvarez replaced Alyssa Bavaro who pitched two-thirds of an inning at the start of the game and allowed one run on one hit and three walks.

Game two started out with a bang for the Pacers as Marywood scored eight runs in the top of the first.  Those runs came on just two hits and two Rosemont errors plus five walks.  Epler tripled to start the inning and Katie O'Meara brought home two runs in the frame.

After Rosemont (2-3, 0-2 CSAC) got one run back in the bottom of the first, Marywood went up 9-1 on another Epler triple, this time brining home O'Meara who had reached earlier in the inning on an error.

Scala would make it 10-1 Marywood in the top of the fourth when she hit a one-out triple to right and then scored on a wild pitch.

Marywood closed out the scoring in the top of the 5th when Sarah Whitte doubled to center and came home on an Epler single to right and Labs doubled to right center to bring Epler in to make it 12-1. Labs would later score on an error for Marywood's 13th and final run of the game.

Katie Siano struck out six and allowed just three hits to improve to 1-2 on the mound.

The Pacers are back in action Friday with a road trip to Cabrini University.  Game one begins at 3:00 pm.
