Scranton, Pa. – Marywood University ended a seven-game losing streak to Neumann University with a 16-7 victory Saturday in its Colonial States Athletic Conference women's lacrosse home opener. It was the Pacers' first win over the Knights since coming on top 13-9 on April 23, 2012.

Sam Bussinelli scored four goals to put herself within four of becoming the sixth member of the 100 Goal Club. Natalie Burke's four points on three goals and an assist put her just two shy of her 100th point. Burke also produced a game-best seven ground balls, in addition to one caused turnover.

Ashley Valway and Katrina Kelly led the Pacers with five points. Valway tallied three goals and two assists. Kelly set a new career high with two goals, three assists and five draw controls.

Lauren Smith made 12 saves and allowed just seven goals.

Maddy Langlotz had her first collegiate goal. Both Gwyneth Gleason (2g-2a) and Erin Healy (1g-1a) had multi-point efforts.

Defensively, Molly Yelencsics generated four ground balls. Caitin Watson caused a pair of turnovers.

Marywood (4-4, 1-1 CSAC) started the game with the first four goals. Kelly opened the day with her first tally on a free-position strike 3:08 into the contest. Valway stormed down the field to score the team's second at 25:41. Bussinelli used the best of open real estate in front of goal to relay a Gleason pass into net. Valway capped the run at the 12:11 mark from Healy.

Diana Caicedo ended the scoreless drought 21 seconds later.

Burke orchestrated a minute of mayhem with a hat trick in a mere 50-second span. She redirected a Kelly pass into goal at 8:22 to take a 5-1 lead. Valway fed her twice in 33 seconds for a pair of goals to go ahead 7-1 with 7:32. Burke nearly penned her fourth but a shot that she leaped for a pass and catapulted to goal pinged off the post.

Bussinelli followed Burke's lead with three straight goals within five minutes to start the second half.

Marywood started the running clock with Gleason's goal at 7:04 to make it a 15-5 contest before Neumann's Shae Risley added a pair. Langlotz scored her first career goal with 2:01 left to cap the scoring.

Neumann goalkeeper Gabby Curry made 14 saves. Risley led the Knights with three goals. Kaitlyn Conrad had a goal and two assists.

Marywood edged Neumann 13-12 in draw controls. The Pacers were 5 of 11 on free-position shots. They outshot the Knights by a 37-25 margin and won the ground ball game 27-18.
