Scranton, Pa. - King's College, along with darkness due to rainy weather, spoiled Marywood baseball's home opener Thursday afternoon as the Monarchs left Scranton with a 11-1 win in six innings after the nine inning game was called early.  King's improved to 8-6 with the win while Marywood slipped to 5-8.

The Monarchs used a six-run second inning to take a 7-0 lead and break open the game.  The visitors would add one in the fifth and three in the sixth before the game was called in the bottom half of the inning when batters started having trouble seeing pitches due to the darkened skies.

Marywood got their lone run of the game in the fourth when Matt Staback picked up an RBI on a fielder's choice that would score Alan Nieto.

Nieto went 2-for-3 for Marywood.  Kyle Lupas went 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles and three RBI for the Monarchs while Chris Rebar was 2-for-4 with a homer.  Shawn Stone (3-for-4) added three RBI for King's.

Marywood is scheduled to begin a three-game series tomorrow with a single game at Neumann, but weather again may force a postponement.  Please check the Pacers' schedule page Friday for updates.
