Women's Lacrosse Comes Short to Misericordia

Scranton, Pa. – Marywood University was outscored in the second half to fall 10-8 to Misericordia University Monday in non-conference women's lacrosse. The Cougars came back from a 6-5 halftime deficit to give the Pacers their second loss in as many days.

Ashley Valway led the team with two goals and an assist for three points. Gwyneth Gleason scored a pair of goals. Katrina Kelly finished with a goal and an assist.

Natalie Burke had four caused turnovers to surpass Mary Ninivaggi for third all-time in program history. Gwyneth Gleason also posted four caused turnovers.

Lauren Smith made eight saves, while allowing 10 goals, for the Pacers (2-2).

Lexee Wiley carried the Cougars (2-2) with four goals. Olivia Garcia supplied a goal and two assists. Misericordia goalkeeper Katie McLoughlin tallied nine saves.

Wiley broke open a 7-7 tie with three consecutive goals. After Kelly evened the score at the 25:39 mark, Wiley outraced the Pacers defense downfield 47 seconds later to go ahead. She added a woman-up goal at the 18:02 mark, and Wiley capped the Cougars' scoring for the night with a 15 minutes left.

Marywood held Misericordia scoreless the rest of the way. It was only able to cut into the Cougars' lead when Gleason added an FPS goal with 10:09 left.

The game went back and forth in the first half with neither team taking a lead of more than one goal. The Pacers added two goals in the final two minutes from Kylie Winton and Erin Healy, respectively.

Winton had a team-high five draw controls.

Each team had 25 ground balls and 23 turnovers. Marywood struggled with its clears by going 10 for 20, compared to the Cougars' 15 of 21 mark. Marywood outshot Misericordia with a 26-21 advantage.

Marywood is idle until March 15 when it travels to Lycoming College.
