Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University's nine-year post-season playoff streak came to an end as visiting Clarks Summit University eliminated the Pacers from playoff contention with a 5-4 win Wednesday afternoon in Scranton. In effect, the Defenders (6-5, 5-2 CSAC) clinched their own playoff berth.

Marywood had not missed a team playoff appearance since the CSAC started hosting team championships in 2008. Prior to that all Championships were individual.

Marywood looked sharp early as the Pacers took two of three doubles matches.  Ahmed AlOreif and Bryon Scholl cruised to an 8-0 win in the top doubles flight. Despite falling 8-0 at two-doubles, Marywood won a tight three-doubles match 8-6 as Brendan O'Rourke and John Shebby were victorious.

Trailing 2-1 heading into singles play, CSU rallied for the win.  The Defenders took matches at two, three, four and six singles for the win.

AlOreif defeated Jason Muller 6-1, 6-4 in the top singles flight.  Nathan Hubbard (6-0, 6-1) won for CSU at two-singles, while Yancy Butler pulled off a tight 4-6, 7-6 (6-1), 6-2 win over Scholl at three-singles.

Wins from Ian Self (four-singles, 6-1, 6-4) and Josh Eichelberger (six-singles, 6-2, 6-1) sealed the win for the visitors.  Shebby earned a 6-2, 6-1 win for Marywood at five-singles.

Marywood (2-7, 2-4 CSAC) will close their conference slate tomorrow with a match at Gwynedd Mercy.
