Pacers Take Down Keystone for CSAC Wins

LaPlame, Pa. - Marywood University's softball team extdened their win streak to eight games as the Pacers took down Keystone College in a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon.  Marywood (12-13, 12-2 CSAC) defeated the Giants 9-1 and 12-6.

The Pacers jumped all over the hosts in the opener, plating eight runs over the first three innings.  Marywood put the game away early with a run in the fifth to make it 9-0.  Keystone spoiled Kirstie Alvarez's shutout bid with a run in the bottom half of the inning, but the game still ended after five due to the eight-run rule.

Alvarez struck out five, walked none and allowed just four hits for her sixth win of the year.

At the plate, Alvarez went 1-for-2 with a double and two RBI while Sara Hayes hit her first homer of the year and finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Kaitlyn Epler, Heather Schultz, Brooke Labs and Alexa Scala joined Hayes with two hits apiece.  

In the nightcap, Keystone hung tough until the sixth when Marywood broke open a 7-6 lead with three runs.  Labs hit a three-run homer, her second homer of the year, and finished with four RBI total. 

Epler was 3-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored.  Scala doubled in the nightcap while Alvarez added another two RBI.  

Alyssa Bavaro (3-2) moved to within one win third all-time in Marywood history with a complete-game, two strikeout performance.

Marywood is back in action Friday when they host Cedar Crest College in a twinbill starting at 3:00 pm.
