Edwardsville, Pa. - Host Wilkes University rallied from a 9-2 deficit by scoring eight runs in the eighth inning as the Colonels defeated the Pacers 10-9 Wednesday afternoon at Artillery Park in Edwardsville. Marywood's fifth straight loss drops the Pacers to 7-16 overall. Wilkes improved to 9-17 with the win.

Kevin McDonough was 4-for-5 with a double and two runs scored for the Pacer.  Vince Rebar was 2-for-3 with three RBI while Matt Staback had a pair of doubles and two RBI. James Goetz collected three hits and an RBI while Alan Nieto had a double, triple and RBI.

Despite a strong offensive day at the plate for the Pacers, Wilkes only needed one big inning to pull out the win.

Trailing 9-2 with only two at-bats left, the Colonels rallied.  After the hosts loaded the bases, Joe Chiampi made his only hit of the game count when he smacked a bases clearing double to make it 9-5.  After a routine grounder moved Chiampi to third, he would then score on a wild pitch to make it a 9-6 ballgame.

James Brown then doubled to bring in another run, and the hosts tied the game at 9-9 when a throwing error allowed two runs to score.  Eric Beideman then brought home the go-ahead run across with a single through the right side.

Marywood threatened to tie in the top of the ninth as McDonough doubled to center, but a flyout to center ended the threat and the game.

Trevor Powers suffered the loss on the mound after allowing five earned runs (eight total) in one inning of work.  Starter Billy McAuliffe pitched well, allowing one run in six innings while striking out two.  Nathan Michener pitched the seventh inning and allowed one run on two hits.

Marywood hosts Clarks Summit University tomorrow in a non-conference doubleheader. Game one starts at 1:00 pm in Scranton.
