Cyclones Race Past Marywood in CSAC Win

Scranton, Pa. – Visiting Centenary University exploded offensively to take home a 17-4 win over Marywood University Friday afternoon in CSAC baseball action. The Cyclones improved to 3-19 (2-11 CSAC) with their highest run output of the year.  Marywood fell to 8-18, 4-9 CSAC with the loss.

Centenary was enjoying a 7-4 lead when the Cyclones exploded for eight runs in the top half of the sixth to put the game out of reach.

Kevin Sensale put the guests up 1-0 on a RBI double in the first. Tim Maxwell made it 3-0 with a hard hit ball that bounced off the third baseman and brought home two more runs.

Marywood got on the board in the bottom of the first thanks to a Jake Schuster RBI single to right that scored James Goetz, but the Cyclones went back up three (4-1) on a Jon Fleck RBI double to left center.
Centenary would make it a 5-1 game in the top of the third before Marywood got their second run in the bottom of the fourth on an Austin Takvor RBI sacrifice fly out.

The teams would both plate two runs in the fifth to make it 7-4 Centenary, and in the sixth the Cyclones did their damage, plating eight runs to break away for good.

A two-run single up the middle started things, then the Cyclones used three doubles the rest of the inning to bring home six more runs, three of which came on a bases-clearing double from Sean Donovan.

Luis Santiago got his first win of the year on the mound, improving to 1-3 after allowing two runs on six hits over four innings of work. Santiago fanned two. 

Salvatore Monello (1-5) suffered the loss, allowing seven runs on eight hits while striking out three over five innings of work.

Maxwell finished the game with five RBI on 3-of-4 hitting.  Casey Brown finished 3-of-4 as well and had two doubles and three runs scored.  Donovan finished with four RBI on two hits, one of which was his double.

Mitch Clemons and Alan Nieto both finished 2-for-4 for Marywood with Nieto picking up an RBI.

Marywood travels to Centenary tomorrow for a doubleheader that begins at 1:00 pm.  That game will be played at Allamuchy Green Acres Park in Allamuchy Township, New Jersey.
