Allamuchy Twp., N.J. - Marywood University dropped a tight opening game 3-2 before avoiding a series sweep from Centenary University with a 9-5 eight-inning nightcap win.  The Pacers stand at 9-19 overall and 5-10 in CSAC play while the Cyclones moved to 4-20 overall and 3-12 in the league after taking two of three from the Pacers.

In the 9-5 win, Marywood built an early 4-2 lead before having to rally with five runs over the final three innings to pull out the win.  The Pacers plated four runs in the top of the eighth to break a 5-5 tie that forced extra innings.

Justin Haddix pitched all eight frames to improve to 3-4 on the season.  Haddix fanned six and allowed four earned runs on just five hits to pick up his third win.

James Goetz and Trevor Powers each had two RBI.  Vince Rebar and Alan Nieto each had two hits. Nieto tripled while Anthony Navaro hit his first collegiate homer in the sixth to tie the game at 5-5.

Nieto broke the 5-5 tie in the eighth after tripling to right to open the inning and coming across on a wild pitch with the bases loaded up.  Matthew Higgins brought in another run with a single to to center.

In a tight 3-2 opening game loss, Goetz and Powers were both 2-for-4 with Goetz bringing in both Marywood runs on a two-run double to left.

Goetz (3-3) did, however, suffer the loss on the mound despite a complete-game effort.  Centenary scored single runs in the first, second and fourth innings and were able to hold the Pacers off the board after Goetz's double in the fourth.

Marywood is back in action Wednesday with a non-conference single game at Lebanon Valley College in Annville.
